Rauwolfia

Rauwolfia (Sarpagandha) is a pungent smelling herb, which is a potent anti-hypertensive. Its Sanskrit name, Sarpagandha, literally translates to 'smells like a serpent'. Reserpine, an active compound found in Rauwolfia, renders the herb its antihypertensive property. Its anti-hypertensive activity is attributed to a decrease in peripheral resistance and the resulting decrease in cardiac output.

It is very effective. I used to take it before I went on a Keto diet and it normalised my BP. Then I stopped taking this drug. Recently, due to some emotional disturbance, my BP has been spiking. As soon as I started on this, with one tablet at night, I saw results the very next day. Now my BP is a bit on the lower side, so I have to reduce the dosage to half a tablet.
