Personality Traits
Golden Retrievers are a medium to large sized breed.
They have a sturdy, muscular build, with a dense and lustrous coat. They have a broad head; thick and straight muzzle; and triangle-shaped short, floppy ears.
The tail is moderately curved upward with a good feather volume. They have a slightly wavy, firm topcoat and a soft undercoat.
The coat on the head, paws, and forelegs is short and even, as opposed to the rest of the body.
Golden Retrievers trot with a smooth, powerful, and well-coordinated gait.
Nutritional Needs
Golden Retrievers are sensitive to their nutritional requirements and must be fed a balanced diet.
Foods with meat protein should be chosen as one of the primary ingredients.
It is observed that Golden Retrievers are allergic or sensitive to certain grains such as corn, brown rice, and wheat; hence, it is best to avoid such foods.
Golden Retrievers are prone to obesity; hence, it is necessary to control the feed quantity based on their age, growth, and physical activity.
Grooming Requirements
Golden Retrievers shed their fur once or twice a year, especially during spring and winter.
They require regular brushing and trimming of the coat (at least once a week) to avoid matting of the fur.
Their nails should be clipped and ears should be cleaned, regularly, to avoid ear infections. They should be bathed at least once a month.
Temperament
Golden Retriever dogs are even-tempered and friendly. Although they were initially bred as sporting dogs, their joyous and affectionate nature makes them a preferred choice as a family dog.
These personality traits apply to Golden Retriever puppies as well.
Physical Exercise
Golden Retrievers are a breed of highly energetic and physically active dogs.
They should be engaged in outdoor activities such as agility training, trail runs, and indoor activities (eg, hide and seek and fetch).
